A Summer Program That Builds the Skills School Often Doesn’t Teach

Today’s students face a lot more than just homework. They deal with constant distractions, academic pressure, social comparison, and emotions that are often difficult to understand or manage. While schools do a great job teaching subjects like math, science, and language, many students never learn the inner skills that help them use those subjects well — skills like focus, confidence, emotional regulation, decision-making, and resilience.

That’s exactly what this summer program is designed to teach.

The Teen Leadership & Mindset Camp at The Conversation Nook helps middle school students build practical tools to manage overthinking, improve focus, communicate confidently, and develop habits that support both academic success and personal growth. Through engaging discussions, interactive exercises, and real-life scenarios, students learn how their thoughts, emotions, and habits influence their actions — and how to guide them in a positive direction.

These are skills students will use not just in school, but throughout life.

Why Middle School Is the Most Important Time

Elementary school teaches children how to learn.
High school teaches them
how to perform and achieve results.

But middle school is where the foundation is built.

This is the age when students begin forming study habits, confidence, self-belief, and decision-making patterns that often stay with them for years. It’s when curiosity either grows stronger or slowly fades. It’s when students begin understanding who they are and how they want to show up in the world.

Helping students build awareness, emotional intelligence, and positive habits during these years can make high school — and life — much easier to navigate.

About the Facilitator

The program is led by Swetha Dhantal, an Emotions and Mindset Coach and founder of The Conversation Nook.

With a background in Counseling Psychology, Neuro-Cognitive Psychology, and Neuro-Linguistic Programming, Swetha helps students understand the science behind how emotions, thoughts, and habits influence learning, performance, and confidence. She conducts interactive workshops for schools, colleges, and organizations and runs leadership and emotional resilience programs for students in grades 6–9.

Her approach is practical, supportive, and focused on helping students develop skills they can apply immediately in school, friendships, and everyday life.

Testimonial

In seeing my students participate in the "Real Foundation of Confidence" student workshop led by Swetha, I appreciated how she used multiple engaging activities to help students really connect with the concepts. This wasn't a 'sit and get' lecture but an interactive experience that engaged students to wrestle with the topics of confidence, self-efficacy, and mindset, as it translates to success. Immediately following the session, I connected with her again to host an additional workshop for our older students!

Swetha was referred to us as a speaker, and she delivered a presentation filled with meaningful interpersonal insights for today's world. Her expertise on the topic of self-efficacy was clear. She thoughtfully explored the distinctions between confidence and resilience, clarified what empiricism truly means, and provided practical guidance on how to apply these concepts for personal growth. These takeaways were incredibly valuable for our audience. Thank you Swetha for leading with care and helping us all growth to be better, more regulated humanity members.

Career Counselor - McCoy College of Business

At the McCoy College of Business at Texas State University, preparing graduate students for success goes far beyond the classroom. Through our Professional Development Units, students strengthen the soft skills that give them a meaningful competitive advantage in their careers.

This week, we welcomed Swetha D. from The Conversation Nook, who guided our students through the neuroscience of self-efficacy - the core belief that shapes how we approach challenges, pursue goals, and build relationships. During this engaging session, Round Rock students learned how to transform uncertainty into confidence, turn setbacks into valuable feedback, and convert self-doubt into opportunities for growth.

By integrating science-backed strategies for understanding the mind, regulating emotions, and developing self-leadership, we empowered our students to lead with clarity, resilience, and confidence in both their professional and personal lives. Thank you Kate F. for organizing our PDU events!
